We are all known to the phrase “health is wealth”, and it indeed in itself displays the significance of health. We all struggle with different problems in our lives, be it social, mental, physical or emotional. Similarly, many of us have also been victims of depression, anxiety, stress, violence, etc. But amidst all of this we forget to nurture ourselves.

Since I’ve been in school, I myself have been under a lot of academic pressure, and stress. I have also lost a lot of friendships over these years. I am not been able to confide in people easily because in modern times it is difficult for one to trust anybody. My mind is already occupied with so many thoughts and it is filled with this undying noise. It seems extremely difficult to lead a healthy life in this way. If you are reading this and are able to relate with me, do not worry, because it is completely okay not to be okay. Here’s a piece of advice to everyone out there: DO NOT GIVE UP. 

We all know that we live in a society where not much heed is paid to the emotional and mental health of a person. But at the same time, I feel that emotional well-being describes our overall health. In spite of my story, I refuse to escape from my problems because this is not the end.

I’ve come across many people, my friends and family, who have numerous problems in life, and it has had an adverse effect on their wellness. One of my friends had a nervous break down as soon as the mark sheet was handed over to her. The maid that comes to clean my house is a victim of domestic violence. She is physically assaulted by her husband and harassed by her in-laws. My close relative once tried to jump off the building because he could not achieve his dreams and got demoralized. These are just few cases but there are so many more in this world. You and me also face many obstacles, but it does not mean that the world is not a beautiful place to live.

It makes me realise that taking a pause in our lives, and introspecting makes a huge difference. We all are so consumed by the presumptions of what image others might have created of us in their minds which is completely insignificant as compared to what you think of yourself. We all should take time and appreciate ourselves, our achievements, and understand the purpose of our lives, in order to keep ourselves happy.

On the other hand, When I gave it a thought, I discovered that all of us have been driven by the single-mindedness of completing our responsibilities, instead of taking care of ourselves in the middle of all the worries we are surrounded with. 

Whenever I feel tensed, I either grab my diary and pen down all that I feel, or I talk about it with my friends and family. It doesn’t mean giving or taking favours, or making a hype about the situation, but it is about overcoming the hurdles in life through means of reaching out. Reaching out when you need help is of paramount importance. You can talk to anybody you trust, and nowadays, everyone also has the provision of professional help. That is called self care. 

Self awareness and self management is imperative in everybody’s life and one cannot afford to neglect it. Your zeal for life would always help you in adapting to the prevailing situations, and the sense of commitment will help you withstand your worst nightmares. 

In a nutshell, We need to stop looking at the dark side of every single thing, and stop being pessimistic.  This also calls for the need to be optimistic and be the master of your own mind. Self care can turn you into the epitome of happiness. Let us not forget that our health should be our foremost priority. Keep your health intact and do not forget that we all are in this together.

While we hear many bad news like Suicide by Sushant Singh Rajput , locust destroying crop and Amphan in WB. I feel the writer possesses qualities to write article for magazines n newspaper. Living a happy life and smiling amidst such crisis and otherwise, while facing problems is the ultimate key. As far as neglecting such an important issue is concerned, I personally feel that it is one of the taboos in our society. They relate mental health to psychological disorder, which is not at all right. How can managing and trying to take care of ourselves be a disorder.   20. As this lockdown has affected many the mental health of so many of us, what do you think can be some measures that one can adopt to take care of themselves?

    1. Ma’am, I feel that we need to keep a distance from everyone, physically, not socially. We need to stay connected with our family, friends and relatives so that we can stay happy. We should spend time with our family, increase the bonding and probably watch movies and Tv shows for a good time pass. Besides, doing exercise daily will keep our minds fresh. All of us should also use this time in a useful manner, for example, learning new things, attending online courses, events, or increasing our knowledge through different ways. Such measures will not only help us In utilising our time, but will also help in keeping Us busy as well as active, which is needed for a healthy mind.     1. Good to know that you liked the write up. Sir, As you asked what can we do to bring a change, firstly, I feel we need to start being empathetic towards Each other. Even few words which may seem small to us, Can have a huge impact on the well being of the other person as we do not know how the he/she perceives it. Secondly, we need to be accepting, welcome people to share their problems and treat their problems as genuine instead of Creating a hype about it. Thirdly, everyone needs to take great care of themselves as I’ve already talked about in the blog.
      All everyone has to do is help and treat an imbalanced mental health similar to that of a bad physical condition. Just the way you can’t live with a broken leg or diabetes or any other ailment, you can’t afford to live with a bad mental health! This will surely help us to break the stigma and save more lives.     1. Good to know that you liked the write up. Ma’am, an imbalanced mental health has adversely affected the youth. I am also a student and thus I understand How the youth feels as a community. Mental health comes with a variety of effects Like depression, anxiety, aggression, paranoia, insomnia etc. The youth is already affected with so many of these because of the academic stress, Peer pressure, Changes they go through In their adolescent age etc. They have started to take quite disturbing steps as They do not have a sound mind. They tend to choose harmful ways like smoking, drinking, suicide, Violence and various other life-threatening actions. Therefore it becomes a very sensitive topic to be dealt with, and I feel it needs to be catered to.     I’ve read so many articles regarding mental health but I personally found this one a little different. The way the idea of a balanced mental health is portrayed through the means of self care is amazing. I feel quite confident, not only after reading the write up but also after going through the comments. Just one thing.. I’m not too comfortable sharing my emotions/ feelings with a lot of people and that disturbs my well being. How do you think I can find a solution to the same?

    1. Good to know that you liked the write up. Ma’am, You needn’t worry about the same because most of us are not comfortable sharing our emotions with others. As I mentioned you may choose to start writing a diary so that you can pen down your thoughts and probably lighten your mood. You May also choose to display your thoughts through the means of art like Writing poems/ songs, drawing, origami and various other forms of art. Besides, if you really need to share your sentiments with someone, you may Book an appointment with a therapist so that he/ she can help you in such a way that your messed up thoughts get a direction. Contacting a therapist does not mean you are suffering an illness. Such professionals just help us by giving peace to our mind and making us realise that Everything is fine and we just need to be calm in order to manage ourselves. I hope it clears your thoughts! ?
